TDI abbreviated as Toluene diisocyanate (C9H6N2O2) is the key ingredient in the manufacture of polyurethane (PU) foam. About 90% production of TDI is consumed for the making of mattresses, car seats and furniture foam; in addition to these they are also used in adhesives, paints and concrete sealers. It is a known fact that Toluene diisocyanate is toxic and carcinogenic, in-spite of this its usage has not declined as their uses are such, & there are no replacements.
